For the past year I worked on the documentary Poor Us, an animated history of poverty. My contribution as head of animation, was to develop the design, storyboards and animation approach, work with director Ben Lewis to translate his ideas and historic notions to dynamic and understandable animated scenes and direct the work of designers Cesare Davolio, Maarten Janssens and animation studio Birdo.
With half of the film consisting of these scenes, it amounts to approximately 30 minutes of animation.
The documentary is slated to broadcast in 70 countries; Three european networks are broadcasting this week, as part of their “Why Poverty” theme week:
VPRO - Sunday 25th Nov – 20:30 h
ARTE - Tuesday 27th Nov, 21:50 h – Programme information here
BBC FOUR – Wednesday 28th Nov, 10.30 pm - Programme information, available through BBC iPlayer
