fig A “Stack”

A couple of publications (fig. A) kindly featured my work in the past few months.
By no means would I want to single out any of these lovely publications, but I’d like to single out one in particular.

Prepare for Pictopia
is the catalog published on the occassion of the Pictopia” exhibition at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, past March. It’s a beautifully produced book with excellent reproductions of the works in the exhibition, as well as a rich selection of essays and articles. These texts (by writers including artist Paul McCarthy and researcher Brian R. Duffy) provide an understanding of the historic evolvement of the topic of figuration and the broader cultural context the works are part of. I’m very humbled to be part of this publication, it’s the best you can get on the topic.

Cut&Paste call for subjects to be worshipped

Cut&Paste is a tournament that puts designers on a stage with a Wacom to design in front of a live audience. Now, if you think this sounds like a devastatingly unstimulating activity, behold how this event has the ability to boost the audience’s enthusiasm by throwing sponsored beer into the mix:

It’s an ego trip that would almost make you forget about the actual challenge involved: on a pretty tight deadline (15 or 20 minutes depending on the category) participants are asked to create a 2d image, 3d thing or motion piece. That’s no cookie! Finalists will go on to compete at the global championship in New York with prizes including 3d software and hardware from Apple and Wacom.

I’ll be one of the judges at the Amsterdam edition in April (in a jury alongside Ewoudt Boonstra (KesselsKramer), Dylan Griffith (MTV Networks), Rob Huisman (Director BNO), Jochem Leegstra (Staat,) Tim Phillips (Glassworks) and Andrew Watson (Amsterdam Worldwide) among others).
And since it is my belief that nobody is a loser, just imagine what this means to the chances of winning!
I don’t know either!
