That’s the view outside though.

Aah yes, easter. What a lovely time of the year.
Speaking of terrified rabbits..pictured here is a theatrical poster design for my epic 45 second sequence “Hare” (published here earlier as a part of the PSST! Pass it on 3 collaborative film project). A micro film in which a hare rabbit carrying a canvas is seen running through a forest, away from an unknown threat.

A poster for such a microscopic piece is ridiculous, I know, it makes no sense, but keep reading.

Not long ago I was invited to create a new film poster for Fellini’s 8 1/2, and that sparked my interest in the relation between film – a time based, immersive medium – and graphic design – still and generally briefly consumed. The privilege of that project was that any marketing motivated aspects could be ignored, making room for a purely artistic expression. That’s where it gets interesting. If the design can be a very subjective interpretation of the film or even an extension of the film’s thematic universe, it not only has the option to honoustly resonate with the viewer, but is also less likely to undermine the experience of the film itself. Doing that for one of my favorite movies didn’t exactly make it any easier, but nonetheless I recall experiencing some degree of pleasure working on it.

So. I couldn’t resist making another poster.

OWN IT!
If you like this design and would be interested in having it as a A1 sized poster (594 × 841 mm / 23.4 × 33.1 inch), just let me know! Send me an email or leave a comment below. If I get enough feedback I’ll do a small print run. Sure, why not! It will be a high quality offset print on medium heavy poster stock…good quality, but keeping the price below 25 euros.
Thanks!!

Temperatures have dropped a little over here in the Bundesrepublik (exhibit A). In the warm and comfortable environment of my home, I suddenly found the “inspiration” for a tiny update.

Each year production house Submarine gives their employees something special for Christmas. Something special, as opposed to, you know, …kitchen appliances.
For last year’s gift they asked me to do a drawing (exhibit B), printed and signed in a limited run of 40. As may be clear from viewing the picture, it has as a subject several instances of Jesus, portrayed performing the act of imaginative brain traveling. Yes sir. In the most cunning fashion, the drawing incorporates several visual themes that apply to the company’s work and spirit.

B

and finally
Starting next week, some of my paintings will be in a (still somewhat secret) group show in Amsterdam. Part of profits will be donated to charity and part of the profit will be donated to me. Below is one of the pieces in the show (exhibit C).
More on this soon…

The work incorporates ideas and visual themes developed over the past few years, while I was working in design and animation. Exploring the subjects of transition, transformation and broken memory, the images linger between being recognizable and abstract. The so-called container character central to the theme of “Revolution Deformation“, is Jesus. Not the Son of God, but a small cartoon character previously dubbed ‘Badboy Lensflare – the albino in a wheelchair’. Jesus is an anamorphic figure that lends itself to the projection of ideas, and can withstand the intuitive process of painting, without losing its own features.
